Gorki Apartments

The Gorki Apartments embody the unique flair of their neighbourhood both inside and out. Housed in the inconspicuous frame of a turn-of-the-nineteenth-century building on a tree-lined street, the thirty-six-apartment accommodation showcases an unconventional and distinctly Berlin concept of luxury. Guests won’t find a lobby when they enter the massive doors of the Gorki. Instead, they walk through a lush courtyard to the refined and homey reception office, evoking the comfort of a private residence.
Much like Berlin itself, the Gorki has witnessed much history. Built at the beginning of the twentieth century, Weinbergsweg 25 served as the abode to an array of characters. During the Weimar Republic and Golden Twenties, the house was especially popular amongst theatre actors. In the rear building, an automotive radiator repair shop was in operation until the 1950s. The house was spared from any major damage during the Second World War, though it fell into ruin after the Berlin Wall was constructed in 1961. It was not until the current owners of the Gorki purchased the property nearly fifty years later that the house would be restored to its former glory.
